Healthy Inspiration- Feel Better from the Inside Out- week 14

I was pleasantly surprised with my results after meeting with the Functional Medical Specialist last week. Everything went in the right direction including my weight, body fat composition and heart rate test which showed I had lower stress levels.

At his suggestion, I had cut out alcohol, coffee, gluten and dairy. We added back wine in moderation since it does not contain gluten or dairy and it is my alcoholic beverage of choice.

I have been sleeping much better so I am not rushing to add back coffee. I have Brassica green tea with caffeine before noon and have been able to avoid any withdrawals from coffee. I continue to take magnesium at night but have lowered my dose. ( I take a capsule and use a spray before bed)

Since making all these changes, my energy levels during the day have been better. ( A good night’s sleep will do that.)

If I have any food intolerances, being restrictive with my diet may be helping with both my sleep and energy levels. Food intolerances are not the same as allergies. Currently there are no blood tests that are “credibly accurate” and considered to be a gold standard as of yet for testing for intolerances even though there are many companies offering blood tests for them.

According to to Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, board-certified gastroenterologist, New York Times best-selling author of Fiber Fueled and ZOE's science board member, whose latest book is all about food intolerance.“The whole topic of intolerance is full of pseudoscience, dubious blood tests, and miracle cures. The blood tests offered currently for food intolerance are not yet yielding credible results.”

For those not familiar with Zoe, it is a company that offers an at home test that they claim looks at the “whole picture” including gut health, blood sugar and blood fat to help create a personalized nutrition plan for you. Unfortunately, New York is the only state you can not get Zoe. (Not sure why.) If you have a gut disease like Crohn’s, Ulcerative Colitis or Celiac you are not eligible for this program either.

Thank you for joining me on My Year of Healthy. Sleeping better was one of my main goals for this experience so I am glad it seems to be going well. I look forward to trying many of the wellness trends I have been learning about throughout the upcoming months and sharing their results.

As always, Fill Up On Healthy and have less room for the other stuff.
